The design mimics the aqueous surface of EPO helix B. Discovery experiments separated the tissue-response activity of this short peptide from the erythropoietic function of intact EPO.
ARA-290 is a short surface-mimetic peptide rather than the full cytokine. The discovery study measured tissue-response endpoints and erythropoiesis separately.
